Knowing who your customers are is your first step to effectively marketing to them. If you don’t get specific about who they are, you’ll spend a whole lot of time and money chasing people who will never actually buy from you – no matter how good your marketing is!

Make a copy of this Customer Personas Template (click File > Make a copy), and then follow the steps below.
- Create a questionnaire (using the template as a guide) for your ideal customer.
- Have a think about who your ideal customer is, then get in touch with as many people as possible who fit that profile. Find at least 5 people, but around 30 is ideal!
- Interview those people using your questionnaire.
- Using the results of your interview, find the common elements between your interviewees. Use these commonalities to build a basic customer persona.
