Pressing Pause On Your Study

We understand that sometimes things happen in your life and plans go out the window. Swinburne Open Education has created our courses to give you a great deal of flexibility, but when something is going to significantly impact your ability to study, we offer the opportunity to put your enrolment on pause.

WHY SHOULD I PLACE MY ENROLMENT ON PAUSE?

Has something happened – or is something planned – that is going to seriously impact your ability to study? It could be a personal or professional change, travel, or the inability to dedicate the same amount of time to your course. A discussion with one of our Student Services Team can help to provide you with the right solutions.

You can reach our Student Services Team by calling 1300 635 480 or emailing student.services@soe.edu.au or you can submit a request through the online learning platform within the ‘Support’ page.

They will provide you with the ‘Course Deferral Request Form’ to fill out and provide information about your reasons for pausing.
You can place a pause on your studies for a maximum of 6 months.

We suggest taking a 2-3 month pause initially and reassessing your situation with a Student Services Team before your return date to see whether your pause should be extended.

NOTE: 6 months is the maximum deferral period available, after which study must be resumed.

PAYMENTS DURING YOUR PAUSE PERIOD
If you are currently on a payment plan, you will remain on your current payment plan schedule during the pause period.
If you have paid in full, there is no refund of course fees during your pause period.
If a change in circumstance means that you are unable to continue with your payment plan, please reach out to the Student Services Team. A 'Special Consideration Form' can be completed and passed on for approval.
