CHCPRP003 Reflect on and Improve Own Professional Practice

Engaging in reflection is an important part of being an effective counsellor. This module will explore how counsellors can evaluate and enhance their practice through a process of reflection and ongoing professional development.

Topic 1: Introduction

Unit overview and outcomes - CHCPRP003 Reflect on and improve own professional practice

Topic 2: Reflection on Your Own Practice

In this topic of the module you will learn about the process and importance of becoming a reflective practitioner. Being a reflective practitioner is more than simply thinking about past experiences and events, it is about considering these experiences in a critical manner and planning how to improve.

This section of the Study Guide will introduce you to some of the methods and techniques that you will be able to use to reflect upon your own practice as a counsellor.

Topic 3: Enhancing Your Own Practice

In this topic of the module you will learn how to use your reflections to enhance and improve upon your practice. By evaluating your work, you will be able to determine whether improvements are needed and seek out further training and advice. You will also learn about the importance of ensuring you have enough support around you, as well as recognising requirements for self-care and developing a self-development plan that allows you to continue to grow as a practitioner.

Topic 4: Facilitating Ongoing Professional Development

In this topic of the module you will learn about the considerations that are required to facilitate your ongoing professional development. This will include introducing you to the processes of professional development, including appraisal and review mechanisms. You will also learn how counsellors can keep up to date with industry developments and expand their skills and knowledge.

Unit Purpose

This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to evaluate and enhance own practice through a process of reflection and ongoing professional development.

Suggested Hours

Although everyone will work at their own pace, we suggest you allow approximately 120 hours to complete this unit competently, including seminars, tutorials, assignments and any practical activities.

Time Frame

The recommended time frame this unit is 100 hours.

Assessment

This unit will be assessed by completing the CHCPRP003 Assessments.

Upon completion of this unit, you should be able to:

Performance Evidence

The candidate must show evidence of the ability to complete tasks outlined in elements and performance criteria of this unit, manage tasks and manage contingencies in the context of the job role. There must be evidence that the candidate has:
