This is Ryan (and Vicky)....

Ryan is employed by Complete Fitness. Complete Fitness has a strict orientation and pre exercise screening process that all trainers must follow. As an advanced personal trainer, Ryan’s responsibilities include; conducting pre-exercise health screening activities, collecting client information, fitness planning and delivery for clients, establishing effective referrals networks, making referral recommendations and explaining all referral procedures to clients, gaining client consent, preparing referral documentation and sending referral letters to appropriate health professionals, complying with all requirements and recommendation from health professionals during fitness planning and program delivery.

What is the purpose of the pre-exercise health screening and what is informed consent?

The purpose of the pre-exercise health screen activities is to gather medical information and data to be used to assess health and readiness to participate in testing and programming.

Informed consent is gaining consent prior to any participation, by informing the client of their rights and responsibilities of being involved in upcoming exercise testing and programming.

Could you briefly describe any programs, services and facilities available, relevant to a client’s fitness needs?

Services and facilities would be memberships, modern fitness equipment, educational resources or advisers for healthy eating information and lifestyle advice, group training and one-on-one training with qualified trainers.

Programs would be individual programs and group exercise programs designed to meet specific health or body needs, strength training, weight loss, group challenges, programs to promote heart health or improve mobility. The list is almost endless.

When advising client of these services and facilities, they will also need an explanation of any costs, access requirements, availability, benefits, features, how these items are matched to the client’s needs, any other important information.

At Complete Fitness, what are the steps in a client induction?

Step 1 is the initial consultation which involves client questions, pre-exercise health screening questionnaire, lifestyle information, waiver or release from client, consent from client to proceed with registration, walk through of facility.

Step 2 is the fitness testing stage. Again, consent from client, explanation of process and purpose of assessment and finally, performing assessment tests.

Step 3 is the counselling stage. Reviewing test results and interpretation, referral recommendations if appropriate, fitness goal setting and introduction to program plan.
