Assessment 02A4 is a portfolio assessment consisting of three tasks which you will complete during your practicum work experience (or at your existing workplace if you are currently working in ECE). Read the full set of assessment instructions in the assessment paper; the following is a summary of the tasks you will need to complete:

Task 1: Te ao Māori and te reo Māori.

In Assessment 02A1 you were asked to give two examples each of how aspects of te ao Māori and te reo Māori could be implemented in an ECE setting.

Using the examples you provided then, you are now going to create resources and use them in an early childhood education setting. This will involve you making a video of yourself using it in your practice which you will upload to your Teams class space in your private channel (only visible to you and your tutor.) as part of this assessment.

(Note: make sure you get consent from your workplace and from the parents or caregivers to record any children appearing in the video. Print a copy of this Observation Consent Form and ensure it is completed for this activity.)

Task 2: Strands of Te Whāriki

This task involves creating one resource for each strand of te Whāriki:

  • Wellbeing|Mana atua
  • Belonging|Mana whenua
  • Contribution|Mana tangata
  • Communication|Mana reo
  • Exploration|Mana aotūroa

Each resource should be original and can be in the form of visuals (e.g. posters), songs, activities, games etc. and clearly illustrate the concept of each of the strands. Posters can be hand-drawn and photographed or created digitally.

Your completed resources should be uploaded to your private channel in Teams as evidence of assessment completion.

Task 3: Cultural Protocols

For this task you will need to plan a cultural event at your ECE workplace which must be planned in consultation and cooperation with ECE management, staff, parents, whanau and the local community.

Your task evidence should include

  • Purpose and justification for your event theme
  • How you planned the event
  • Communication with relevant stakeholders for the event
  • Photographs and videos of the planning and execution of the event.

Task 3 portfolio evidence should be uploaded to your private channel in Teams.
