Introduction

Welcome to CUAGRD515-Design and Manipulate Complex Layouts.

As you are nearing the end of your studies in the Diploma of Graphic Design, this module concentrates on designing complex publication layouts by combining your creative design skills with technical software proficiency.

There are five (5) aspects of study associated with this module.

These are:

1. Analyse design needs, where you will confirm communication objectives with your client and evaluate the specifications of the design brief. You will also investigate the legal, ethical and contractual influences on your design work.
2. Develop and refine layout ideas, where you will investigate layout design and analyse graphic techniques and technologies. You will also evaluate and select design approaches and present visual representations of design ideas.
3. Create and manipulate layouts using Adobe InDesign and tools and features to support layout design and solve any technical issues. You will also support the communication objectives of your client and use the integration of text and visuals.
4. Evaluate design work, where you will critique your solutions for layouts against the design objectives and seek feedback from others. You will also assess your work and identify areas for improvement.
5. Finalise technical aspects, where you will edit and refine layouts and follow correct procedures and protocols for saving, exporting and storing files. You will also establish file formats for output.
