- Almost 30% of international visitors travel to New Zealand for the purpose of visiting friends and/or relatives. VFR is the second largest purpose of visit for international visitors.
- The main reason why international visitors come to New Zealand is for the purpose of a holiday. Over half of all international visitors (52%) come to New Zealand for a holiday. This ties in with Australia being our largest generating market as its proximity to NZ makes us an easily viable holiday destination option.
- Business travellers made up 8% of New Zealand’s total visitor arrivals, this is the 3rd biggest reason for international visitors to travel to New Zealand. However, 12% of travellers make up the ‘other’ unspecified category of purpose (which means they have a mixture of the above three reasons for travelling to NZ or other reasons not listed).
