Programme Overview
The title of the programme is the Diploma in Creative Marketing (Level 5). This programme leads to the national qualification New Zealand Diploma in Digital Media and Design (Level 5), 120 credits.
Strategic purpose statement
This programme is for people wanting to gain the general skills and knowledge required to work in a technical or assistant digital media, design and marketing role. The digital media and design industry and creative and cultural sector in Aotearoa New Zealand will benefit by having people trained with marketing knowledge and skills to create basic marketing content. Graduates will be capable of applying general skills and knowledge in marketing and digital media and design projects independently and in teams.
Aim
The aim of this programme is to provide students with an interest in design or marketing and the core skills used to create web and digital graphic design and production for marketing.
Graduate Profile
Graduates of the Diploma in Creative Marketing (Level 5) will be able to:
- Apply problem-solving skills to a range of digital media and design challenges.
- Apply and manage a design process to meet the requirements of project briefs within defined guidelines.
- Apply general and technical skills in the creation of design and marketing solutions.
- Analyse and evaluate your own work and the work of others.
- Demonstrate professional practices, including leadership, in a digital media and design work environment.

2 | Design Foundation | 30 | This module provides an important foundation for the learner in the elements and principles of design that will be employed throughout this programme. This will introduce students to the opportunity to familiarise themselves with what it means to be a consumer and how the needs and wants of a consumer, impact the development of a design. |
3 | Web and Graphic Design | 30 | The visual assets of any design are important factors in developing any design content and core skills developed here are commonly used by industry. |
4 | Marketing | 30 | This module provides a solid marketing and consumer behaviour foundation knowledge that can be applied in a variety of situations and also equips the learner with practical skills in digital channels. |
5 | Entrepreneurship | 15 | This module introduces the theory and practice of entrepreneurship. Students can gain an overview of the start-up process, assess their own 'mindset' for entrepreneurship and map out their journey to develop their mindset and skillset as entrepreneurs. The subject also introduces the ecosystem of entrepreneurship, the social enterprise structure and the different challenges in entrepreneurship. |
6 | Campaigns | 15 | This module is a combination of creative visual and copywriting skills, and marketing and resilience skills learnt to date. It requires a persuasive presentation of a marketing plan with supporting creative assets that meet an identified market need. |
